Lloyd’s are seeking to recruit a Senior Actuary, Syndicate Reserving on a 7 Months FTC (Fixed Term Contract) this role is senior actuarial position within the team with responsibility for management of a number of work areas, across syndicate reserving.
Principal Accountabilities:
As a Manager you would be expected to be a technical expert and manage or support various aspects of the work undertaken by the Syndicate Reserving team.
Syndicate reserving
Lead the continuous review of the appropriateness of syndicate reserve estimates
Lead analysis to assess syndicate-level reserve adequacy
Plan and deliver appropriate resourcing and training for this work area
Report on outcomes of this work to management within the team and external to the team as appropriate
Use an appropriate range of reporting metrics, based on Lloyd’s Global Central Reserving Exercise and various syndicate returns to Lloyd’s, to identify and carry out follow-up with syndicates
Ensure all reporting is in line with professional requirements and standards
Syndicate Actuarial Function Reporting
Provide appropriate guidance to the market in this work area
Plan and deliver appropriate resourcing and training for this work area
Report on outcomes of this work to management within the team and external to the team as appropriate
Ensure all reporting is in line with professional requirements and standards
Statement of Actuarial Opinion Reporting
Provide appropriate guidance to the market in this work area
Plan and deliver appropriate resourcing and training for this work area
Report on outcomes of this work to management within the team and external to the team as appropriate
Ensure all reporting is in line with professional requirements and standards
Reserving risk appetite
Based on syndicate reserving provide input to appropriateness and status of reserving risk appetite
Work with internal stakeholders as appropriate, including the syndicate capital team, the Lloyd’s Internal Model team, Risk Management, International Regulatory Affairs and other parts of the Corporation
Lloyd’s Principles of Doing Business
Provide updates and advice to the market on the Reserving Principle for the Lloyd’s Principles of Doing Business compliance
Lead assessments of compliance of the Reserving Principle as appropriate
Liaise with other teams on any emerging issues which may be of cross functional interests
Peer Review
Provide peer review to work areas as appropriate, focussing on required purpose and potential improvements to the work considered-Strategic Initiatives
Lead the implementation of any strategic initiative aspects relevant to managed work areas
Team Management
- Assist with recruitment into the team
- Plan and deliver appropriate resourcing and training for work areas responsible for leading
- Lead junior members of the team on the projects and pieces of work involved in
- Be seen as a role-model in the team: both as a source of technical expertise and as a behaviour model
- Management of actuarial analysts
- Contribution to collaboration and knowledge-sharing across the team
Skills and Knowledge
- Knowledge and Skills in non-life insurance work, preferably with some exposure across a range of work areas and significant reserving experience
- Examples of leading project work to completion and presentations to various stakeholders (actuarial and non-actuarial)
- Advanced knowledge of the actuarial techniques involved in non-life insurance
- Knowledge of various IT tools including Excel, Access, Word
- Knowledge of reserving tools including ResQ or similar
